  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Stir in milk if a softer cookie texture is desired.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 5 cm apart.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are set but centers remain soft and pale.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
